The Montreal Festival receives the world première of “Flamenco Flamenco” of Saura
Appreciation and prizes in movie competitions all around the world- from Berlin to Cannes, from New York to San Sebastian- pull the career of Carlos Saura (Huesca 1932). However, it is in the Montreal festival, in Canada, where the author of famous titles of musical cinema as Bodas de sangre or Sevillanas, received a lot of prizes, close to a ten for movies like El amor brujo, Carmen, Pajarico, Goya en Burdeos or El séptimo día for which he received, in the edition of 2004, the prize of the best director, like the Gran Premio Especial de las Amercias in 1995 for the movie Flamenco. |
There’s 15 years ago, with the production of Juan Lebrón, Saura wanted to show all the repertory of the jondo art legends- Farruco, Chocolate, Fernanda de Utrera, La Paquera de Jerez, Merche Esmeralda, Rancapino et Enrique Morente to mention just some of the protagonists of this musical cinema event. So, thanks to the production of the company from Sevilla GPD, the famous building of the Expo of 92 received singers like Israel Galván, Rocío Molina, Farruquito, Sara Baras or Eva Yerbabuena A new generation, which, for this musical movie, count on the sponsoring of the masters who stay active and who faced to Saura in Flamenco or Manolo Sanlucar and Paco de Lucia.
At the end of the month, The Montreal World Film Festival will be celebrated (between the 26th of august and the 6th of September) and will receive the world premiere of the film which the movie maker shot in the Pabellón of the Futuro de la Isla de la Cartuja during six weeks between October and November of the last year. Concretely, according to the information of the Festival, the movie, an artistic description of the new performers of the jondo, will participate in the section World Greats, which is reserved for author cinema. In this section dedicated to “film directors who don’t need to be introduced”, 31 other movies of film directors of this category will be presented out of competition like the one of the Chinese Zhang Yimou, with A woman, a gun and a noodle shop; the georgian Otar Iosseliani with his new movie, Chantrapas or the French Jean Becker, with My afternoons with Margueritte, played by Gérard Depardieu.
