Rociero and country skirts (faldas rocieras y camperas) are garments designed for the El Rocío pilgrimage, local festivities and country events. They differ from classic flamenco skirts by being more practical and comfortable for walking, horse riding or travelling by cart: lightweight fabrics, movement-friendly cuts, and country patterns such as checks, stripes and earthy solid colours. They are the alternative to a full flamenco outfit when an Andalusian look is desired without sacrificing comfort.
Country skirts come in several cuts. The long plain or printed skirt is the most versatile, suitable for both the pilgrimage trail and the feria. The skirt-trousers (falda pantalón) combine the look of a skirt with trouser functionality, ideal for riding. Lightweight trail skirts are made from cool, quick-drying fabrics. Common materials are cotton, linen and blends with stripe and check patterns. Prices range from €35 to €130 depending on style and fabric.
