Flamenco shoes are specialised footwear designed for flamenco dance, with leather soles, nails in the toe and heel to produce the characteristic zapateado sound, and a firm fit that allows precise footwork. They differ from regular shoes in their reinforced construction, built to withstand repeated heel strikes, and their wide, solid heel (usually 5 to 7 cm for women).
There are three levels depending on the dancer's practice. Beginner shoes (from €25) use synthetic materials and basic nails, ideal for first classes. Semi-professional shoes (€40 to €85) combine leather and synthetic materials with better-quality nails. Professional shoes (€98 to €395) are made entirely of leather, with double stitched soles and high-quality nails, such as those by Begoña Cervera and Gallardo.
