The flamenco skirt (also called rehearsal skirt or ruffled skirt) is the basic garment of flamenco attire. It is used for both classes and rehearsals as well as performances and fairs. Its design with flares and ruffles allows for the characteristic hip movements and turns of flamenco dance.
There are several types depending on their construction: ruffled skirts (the most classic, with layers of fabric stacked), quillas (vertical cuts that provide flare without extra volume), godets (triangular pieces inserted to increase the flare), and canastas (rigid structure at the base). The most common fabrics are jersey, crêpe, and poplin. Prices range from €19.50 for beginner models to €120+ for professional models with double or triple ruffles.
