Simof 2010 News
We’ve already told you about the New Designers Contest, but what we haven’t told you is what this competition of young talent means for flamenco fashion. Such important names as Juana Martín have stepped up in this competition. Juana and other Young people, such as Cañavate, who we’ll get to know in successive posts. All of them debuted on the catwalk as new designers in search of an opportunity to show their concept of dressmaking, their vocation as designers and important personality traits.

Desfile Curro Duran
This year is the consecration of these new talents. Such is the case with Curro Durán, from Antequera but trained in Seville, who was born with the design gene (his family is linked to the sector) and who for the second consecutive year presents his collection at SIMOF. This year he did it through Ríos Quintana and with the collaboration of the accessories firm Florsali. Curro has demonstrated a positive evolution and a determined vocation for making classic and timeless flamenco designs. His 2010 collection, titled “Workshop,” is influenced by Parisian haute couture, proposing very feminine silhouettes and styles in which shoulders play an important role, waistlines that tighten and large and voluminous ruffles. The fabrics chosen are rich and sophisticated: natural silk shantung, taffeta, Chantilly lace, toile de jouy and sequins.

Diseñadora Margarita Freire

Another noteworthy Young designer is the self-taught Margarita Freire, who Little by Little has made a niche for herself among the SIMOF regulars with easily recognizable designs, namely for the short jackets, which she uses repeatedly with positive results. Her collection this year is more colorful than other years, when black, white and red predominated. But true to her style, she continues to create unconventional dresses and two piece designs that are most appropriate for festive and evening events.

In contrast with other designers this year, Freire introduces an abundance of accessories: necklaces, bracelets, hair combs, earrings... Bu this year, her bags matching her designs have drawn the most attention.

This is a great moment for a new group of designers. We welcome the new blood!
