The dancer Sara Baras has spent over a decade headlining successful shows thanks to her magnificent work on stage. Her racial, profound and elegant dancing is topped off by exquisite staging making her deserving of her numerous recognitions, amongst which some of the most important include the National Dance Prize, The Max Performing Arts Prize in the Best Female Dancer, Best Dance Performance and Best Choreography categories, as well as the Gold Medal of Andalucía.

However, the most important of all of her recognitions is the loyalty of her public, who show after show, have packed the theatres that the dancer from Cadiz has graced and from which she has no announced she will now retire temporarily. The young Baras has decided to take a break to become a mother, as the doctors have recommended that she take a professional break in order to seek motherhood.

Sara Baras is saying her goodbyes to the stage with ‘Esencia’ a collection of her most brilliant and unforgettable moments, a sort of anthology of her career. Twelve years ago, Baras founded her own company and has since traveled the world with nine shows characterized by their excellent quality, making her a reference in the dance world and a part of flamenco history.

In ‘Esencia,’ audiences will enjoy the Works from Baras’ Juana la Loca, Mariana Pineda and Carmen. Baras combines her own personal presence with that of these historical women.

Coinciding with her birthday, on April 25 Sara Baras will perform her last show in Cádiz, her home province, so that she can temporarily say goodbye to her countrymen. She faces this new stage in her life with enthusiasm and uncertainty, as she cannot conceive of life without dance, but she hopes to return enriched as an woman and artist.

Sara Baras was born in San Fernando (Cádiz) in 1971 and has flamenco in her blood, as her mother, Concha Baras, was also a dancer, and it was in her mother’s school that Baras began her training. As a child, she was part of the group Los Niños de la Tertulia Flamenca, with whom she performed in Andalusia’s flamenco festivals. At the age of 18, she became part of Manuel Morao’s company with whom she toured Spain, European capitals and New York. It was also at 18 that she received her first distinction, First Prize in TVE’s Gente Joven Awards.

Since then, her career has been unstoppable, and she has worked with important flamenco singers and dancers, such as Enrique Morente and Antonio Canales, among others, until she founding her own company in 1997, which premiered at the closure of the XXXVII Festival del Cante de las Minas.

With her company she has revived historical figures, women such as Carmen, Mariana Pineda and Juana la Loca, and her productions are always characterized by their elegance, excellent live music and a company with first rate artists and an exceptional corps de ballet.
