Pepe Blanco succeeded thanks to his macho voice and scenic personality

José Blanco Ruíz, known as Pepe Blanco, a Spanish singer (Logroño March 19, 1911 died in Madrid in December 1981), was born in the street Rúa Vieja almost opposite the chapel of San Gregorio.
From his early childhood he worked transporting gravel and sand for construction, and wine for wine warehouses in Logroño.
With 16 years he began to work for the family Casto Barrio who runs a rental cars company in the town of Ceniceros. He drives a taxi and he also worked as the personnal chauffeur of the Mayor of Logroño.
On September 14. 1935 he married Rosa Sistiaga Frias. At 28 years old he buys a taxi thanks to the help of the Garrigosa family. The taxis stop was opposed the "Ibiza Coffee" in Logroño. Pepe was well known in Logroño as "Marchenita" because he usually imitated Pepe Marchena; he also accompanied the guitar of Sebastian Trapero.
At 31 years old he appeared with Sebastian Trapero in the Circo Price in Madrid where they made "The National Flamenco Singing": a real success from the first day. There he met Lola Flores.
He recorded his first disc at 34 years old.  In 1945 he acted in several companies and also in collaboration with Carmen Morell.
In 1946 he formed his first company along with the singer Carmen Morell. Pepe was 34 years old and Carmen 17. In 1961 they get divorced.
In the year 1962 he moved to live in Madrid. Pepe and Rosa had two sons who live in Lardero (Logroño). His son Pepe died in February of 2002 in Lardero.
Pepe and Carmen stayed more than one year in South America in 1.951: nine months in Buenos Aires and also in Venezuela, Mexico, Peru, Cuba, Brazil, Chile. One of his disc was totally dedicated to the tango.
After the separation of Carmen Morell, Pepe acted in several nightclubs in company of
Farina, Porrinas de Badajoz, Rosita Ferrer, Lilián de Celis, Tomás de Antequera, Gloria Romero, Valderrama, and Antonio Molina.
He died in Madrid the 17 December of 1981, was buried in Logroño, in the familiar pantheon. In 1981 his native city dedicated to him one street.
He recorded more than 150 songs in solitaire, and 30 with Carmen Morell.
The most important composers wrote some songs for him: Quintero, Leon and Quiroga and Perelló, Monreal, Llabrés, and Codoñer.
Pepe Blanco succeeded thanks to his macho voice and  scenic personality. All the professionals of the scene recognized him as a good man, detached, simple and spontaneous.
