Oscar Herrero
Oscar Herrero
Oscar Herrero is a versatile and multifaceted guitarist: a concert guitarist, composer and flamenco researcher. It is in the latter facet that he has carried out some exceptional work. Applying pedagogy to the learning of the flamenco guitar, he has developed a personal teaching method that he teaches in person through long-distance courses that use audiovisual supports (Guitarra flamenca paso a paso and Tratado de Guitarra Flamenca).
As a guitarist, Óscar Herrero began by accompanying the singing and dancing of figures like José Menese and Carmen Linares, but he soon decided to become a concert guitarist. As well as achieving this, he has also earned himself an important reputation in the whole world, where he has toured frequently, playing in the most important venues and theatres. As proof of this, it may suffice to say that he was the first flamenco concert guitarist to play in Iceland.
Since he started working as a solo artist, Óscar Herrero has composed all of his repertoire, including the themes in his records. He has won some of the most important national prizes: the “Bordón Minero” in the Festival de la Minas (Mines Festival) in 1985 and the first prize in the Jerez competition.
