One more year, and it’s now 16, Seville welcomes one of fashion and flamenco’s most unique events: a fashion show in which both meet to present the season’s trends in dresses worn to Andalucia’s Ferias, Romerías and on the Spanish stage. We’re talking about the International Flamenco Fashion Salon (SIMOF), a fashion show that turns Seville into the location of a four-day party. From the 28th of January to the 1st of February, there four intense days on which the public can see over 1000 flamenco dresses! All of the outfits are unique and designed by the sector’s most prestigious designers.

SIMOF is an event that breaks records, as it places more fashion on the catwalk than any other salon of these characteristics in Spain. Additionally, this is a unique fashion show. Are there other regional costumes that evolve year after year as much as flamenco dresses? There is nothing like it in the whole world. SIMOF is a great opportunity to see and even touch exclusive designs, true collectables in countries such as Germany, Japan, Singapore and United States. More than 50,000 visitors attend each year. Among them are numerous well known faces that want to know before everyone else what is going to be worn at Andalucia’s large celebrations, including performers, who are faithful to their favorite designers and who later wear gorgeous dresses, shawls and trains in their performances throughout the world.

Raquel Revuelta, Director of the Doble Erre agency (the company that created this initiative) and Felipe Luis Maestro, Managing Director of FIBES, shared some of this year’s surprises: an increase in the number of models, a larger prize for the Young designers that compete in the traditional contest for new designers that opens the event... The designer and president of the Moda Flamenca de Andalucía (Flamenco Fashion of Andalucia) association, Pilar Vera, explained the socioeconomic importance of this sector.

Next week we’ll bring you news about the event’s highlights. There’s a lot to see: 27 fashion shows, dozens of expositors, designers, wholesalers, artisans, etc. Internationally recognized models, including Nieves Álvarez, emotionally charged homages, such as those received by Eva González and the great Lina, created by Mof&ART, the Moda Flamenca de Andalucía association, which brings the most highly respected designers.

So much to see and so little time... But if you watch Flamenco.TV, no matter where you are in the world, you can watch a privileged transmission of the event. And if you continue to read our blog, you won’t miss a beat.
