The "cajon" is an Afro-Peruvian percussion instrument, created by the Peruvian slaves during the Spanish colonization, since the Catholic Church forbade them to play their heathen drums. Its international diffusion is coming from its adoption and usage by Paco de Lucía in 1977 after a tour in Latin America. After the flamenco community has adopted the Peruvian "cajon", a lot of percussion players appeared. The "cajon" has now its onw and irrapleceable place in the flamenco world. This instrument is a mix between the "palmas" and the "taconeo".
